Vietnamese Cuisine Food Tasting at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur

Hi guys!

I'm back from my period of hibernation and I will be posting up more updates from this day onward. I'll cut the story short. Last Monday which is on the 16th of May 2011, I was invited to a food tasting at Le Meridien Kuala Lumpur, situated side by side with the Hilton Kuala Lumpur and the commonly known KL Sentral. It has been a very unique experience for me since I never attend a Vietnamese cuisine food tasting and it's truly a fresh new experience for me.

The guest chefs from Shereton Saigon who came all the way from Saigon, Vietnam are led by Chef Tran Cong Tien, Chef Nguyen Thi Duy, and Chef Bui Van Tien Dung. There are a variety of Vietnamese dishes on the promotion at the Latest Recipe but the chefs only displaying the there specialties exclusively which are the Grilled Beef Wrapped with Fragrant Leaves, followed by the Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls with Soya Bean Sauce and last but not least the Sticky Rice Dumpling with Green Bean Filling and Ginger Syrup which is one of the Vietnamese dessert specialty.

Kimberly Chun to be the 1st to try out the roll wrapping...

KY did try to wrap the roll too... and it the outcome was skinny. Haha...

As the appetizer, we had Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls with Soya Bean Sauce. It has the mixture of Vietnamese herbs with the peeled prawns, butter lettuce, carrots and fresh rice vermicelli on rice paper. It has a really fresh taste and it's not the usual vegetable rolls that you get to taste at anywhere out there.

The main course - Grilled Beef Wrapped with Fragrant Leaves.
A mixture of minced beef, beef fat and ingredients which are wrapped with the La lot leaves are pan-fried and the uniqueness is the smell of the leaves bursting off into the air.

After the main course, the chefs prepared the dessert which is called the Sticky Rice Dumpling with Green Bean Filling and Garlic Syrup. It taste something similar with the 'Tang Yuan' that we had during the Chinese festival. It is not too soft because during the cooking process, after boiling the dumpling is then transferred to cold water so that the texture can be harden a little.

Some iced coffee with pearl as refreshments.

A group photo before taking off.
