Pick-Me-Up Cafe @ Kuchai Lama

What is your first impression when you hear the word 'pick-me-up'

I figured that most of you that have not heard about this cafe before must have thought that this is a place where you will need to pick someone up after hanging out at this particular place. As for me, I interpreted it as a place that serve a wide amount of scrumptious dessert and snacks that are too good to have it there that we must pick it up along our way back home or to any other destination.

The idea of this cafe was first adopted two months ago by the husband and wife team, Jared and Annie. They offered a variety of products, not limited to only Taiwanese snacks and desserts but also Chinese, Asian Fusion and Mexican.

As we progress into the premise, we noticed that the interior was quite simple, clean and comfortable as a place to chill. They had white plastic chairs and table while the sofas are at the left corner. Good enough to cater customer from couples to a group of 8 to 10 person.

The Pick-Up Area at the other end of the counter after the customers had paid their orders. They use the same vibrating device system which are also used by Snowflake and UFO Dessert.

Ice Cream Burritos, RM5.50 per piece

The first dessert served to us was the Ice-Cream burritos. Customer gets to choose from Mango, Banana, or Oreo which will be rolled together with Vanilla Ice Cream and drizzled with Chocolate sauce on the inside. I love all three flavor since I have always been a big fan of mango, banana and oreo since my young age :)

The second dessert that we had was the Ice Tower which was still under the R&D stages, this is not out in their products offering yet. It's an ice tower made up of three distinct ice shaves, being cincau, gula melaka, and soya, with a red beans acting as separators. Toppings that come with it are taro balls, cincau, pearls, and barley. They also come with a side condiment of creamer and gula melaka.

Chili Chic Quesadillas, RM8.50

Next up, it was the typical Mexican snack, the Chili Chic Quesadillas. Somehow we were quite disappointed that the snack were not served similar as displayed in the picture. However, as Annie and Jared pointed out to us, this was because their food photographer wanted to showcase the fillings of the Quesadilla. However, they can't put so much chicken as it will come out at the sides when they grill it. But thankfully, it tastes really good beyond our expectation.

A close up shot of the filling inside the Quesadillas.

After that, we were treated to their Chili Chic Fries and Cheesy Fries. The sauces for the fries were put aside, to prevent them from getting soaked in the sauces, for the benefit of those who love to sit and chat for hours with family or friends.

Chili Chic Fries, RM8.00

The sauce for the Chili Chic Fries was actually tasted the same as the Chili Chic Quesadillas filling.
Apart from that, we also had the soft serve ice cream and frozen yogurt.

Soft serve Ice Cream with Cornflakes, Nata de Coco and Oreo bits, RM 5.50

Frozen Yogurt with Strawberry, Crushed peanut, and toasted oats, RM6.50

In my opinion, the soft serve ice cream was just right for me, not too sweet but the froyo was too sour for my liking. Maybe that's just me, froyo lovers would love it due to its sourness.

Cheesy Nachos, RM4.50  - This would be nice if served together with beer! Haha

Nutella French Toast with Ice Cream, RM6.50

The toast was one of my favorite. The bread wasn't too thick and this was a really good light snack when you are craving for some chocolate spread on toast. Love it to the max! :D

(Thanks to Mikhaela for showing us how tall was the Fruity Ice Tower by comparing it with her iPhone)
Fruity Ice Tower RM12.00 per bowl.

Oh and before I forget, last but not least it was the Pick-Me-Up signature dessert, the Fruity Ice Tower. It's good for 2 to 4 person and there are three flavours in the Fruity Ice Tower which is the Blueberry, Mango and Strawberry, withVanilla Ice Cream as the separator.

It's really smooth and the best part was when the Ice Tower suddenly fell down into the bowl, we just couldn't hold it and broke into laughter :)

The cafe was full house after dinner hour most of the time.
So do get there early to save a nice seat for you and your mates! :)
