The Mexican Fiesta at InterContinental KL

It's the month of April and I know some of you might had pranked someone since yesterday was the April Fool day or might had been prank by your colleague, friends or family. Anyway, it's just for the sake of having fun and hopefully no one got harm. On the 18th of March, I was invited to InterContinental KL for the introduction to Mexico's world famous traditional cuisine. In collaboration with the Embassy of Mexico in Malaysia, Madam Lourdes Sosa Marquez, Deputy Head explained to us the history of Mexico's world famous traditional cuisine. Now, the UNESCO committee for the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage has inscribed Mexican Cuisine on the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Hopefully one day our Malaysian cuisine will be listed as well.

Madam Lourdes Sosa Marquez, Deputy Head of Embassy of Mexico in Malaysia
Madam Lourdes explained to us how traditional Mexican cuisine is a comprehensive cultural model of farming, ritual practices, age-old skills, culinary techniques and customs just like our ''yee sang' in Malaysia which is a culture for the Chinese to have during Chinese New Year festival. It is very important to understand the basis of the system, which is founded on corn, beans, chili and other native ingredients such as varieties of tomatoes, squashes, avocados, cocoa and vanilla.

After the speech and Q&A session with Madam Lourdes, we witnessed how to prepare the perfect Quesadilla by the masterful, Paula Estefania Gallegos Galeana.

Here are the delicious looking Quesadilla cooked by Paula.

Two extraordinary Mexican Chefs were specially flown in from Presidente InterContinental Mexico to cook up an authentic Mexican Feast such as tacos, quesadillas, cactus salad, pambazos, enchiladas, tamales, huaraches, barbacoa and many more!

Nachos anyone?

Anyone tasted this ice lemon tea with red chili in cuts?

These are the chilies used for the ice lemon tea.

Mexican food is best to match with 'some' margaritas.

Head over to InterContinental KL to savour authentic Mexican favourites specially prepared by their visiting Mexican Chefs Salvador Vasquez and Tania Gonzalez from 1- 15 April. It’s a Fiesta you won't want to miss!
