The KDU MY Challenge 2013 Grand Finals

Two months agao, I was at the KDU MY Challenge 2013 Culinary Art Finals which took place at B.I.G. Ben's Independent Grocer in Publika. Culinary Art was one of the six events in KDU MY Challenge 2013 and during the final, I got an opportunity to meet AFC Chef Bruce Lim who was one of the judge for the event.

The KDU MY Challenge 2013 wrapped up its run on 25th August with the Grand Finals at MBPJ Civic Hall, ending with a cake-cutting ceremony to mark 30 years of quality education from the KDU Education Group. Started in April this year, the Challenge has attracted over 800 students from 34 schools across the Klang Valley to participate in six events – Solo Singing, Band, Modern Dancing, Short Film, Photography and Culinary Arts.

The emcees for the Grand Finals
Organised in conjunction with the KDU Education Group’s 30th anniversary, this inter-school talent competition has provided a revolutionary platform for secondary school students in the Klang Valley to develop and showcase their talents in the areas of performing arts, creative design and imaginative expression.

I did manage to catch the second half of the grand finals where the participants were doing modern dancing.

All the dancers were quite talented and some can really synchronize well with each other movements and performed with great dance choreography.

Somehow it reminds me of our local dance reality show - 8TV Showdown.

Earlier during the first half, there were solo and band performances.

“The KDU Education Group believes that good education develops students holistically. KDU MY Challenge is aimed at providing opportunities to students to showcase their talents. This underlines the pedagogy of the KDU Education Group – academic approach beyond the classroom,” said Datin Teh Geok Lian, Chief Executive Officer of KDU Education Group.

“Seeing these bright, young stars today, I believe we are on the right track. The KDU MY Challeng has proven to be a great platform to unearth the potential of young Malaysians in diverse areas, demonstrating that there is more to education than just academics,” she added.
This sentiment was shared by the judges, who have been impressed by the talent shown by the student participants.
