A Journey Through Time VIII is set to return with a stellar line-up of luxury watch brands and exquisite jewellery. Presented by Starhill Gallery and endorsed by the Ministry of Tourism and Culture, Malaysia, this annual event will once again be a focal point for watch and jewellery enthusiasts as well as renowned brands to come together in celebration of beauty, luxury and excellence.
Taking place within Starhill Gallery from 21 – 28 November 2014, A Journey Through Time VIII is destined to be a powerful prelude to Baselworld 2015 with rare private collections, first-in-market editions and exquisite pieces from over 125 luxury brands, some of which are debuting in Malaysia such as HYT, Lilla Rio, MOISEIKIN, Carlo Barberis and Gem Palace, being featured during the eight day extravaganza.
According to Joseph Yeoh, Vice President, YTL Land & Development Bhd, YTL Hotels and Properties said, “The showcase this year will be our most diverse, as we are creating a complete experiential event. Ultimately, our objective is to solidify this showcase as a key event in the Malaysian calendar, to not only drive tourist arrivals and increase tourism spending, but also enhance the position of Malaysia as a destination of choice for luxury shopping and dining experiences.”
“A Journey Through Time VIII will bring together in one place, the most exclusive collections of luxury watches and jewellery, as well as renowned principles, skilled ateliers and master-craftsmen from the most famous watch and jewellery houses in the world. A Journey Through Time VIII is poised to be the perfect show starter for Baselworld 2015, the world’s biggest and most important event for the watch and jewellery industry,” Joseph said.
A wide array of activities are planned throughout this edition, starting with regional road shows in Singapore, Jakarta, Bangkok, Shanghai, Hong Kong and throughout parts of Malaysia to build excitement and attract visitors to the main showcase. The main event will span two floors and 30,000 sq.ft of exhibition space within Starhill Gallery, which has been listed as Asia’s Most Beautiful Mall by The Forbes Traveller and mentioned by The New York Times as one of the Top 31 Places to Visit.
At the main showcase, visitors will be able to view exclusive pieces by internationally renowned watch brands such as Bedat & Co, Cecil Purnell, Dior, Hermès, Omega, Hublot, Ulysse Nardin, Breguet, Maîtres du Temps, Khronos, a multi-brand boutique which is home to a selection of brands, and Jaeger-LeCoultre which will be featuring 12 exclusive pieces, each worth RM1.25 million from 17 – 23 November 2014. Premier jewellery brands including Gubelin, Carrera y Carrera, Ceres, Garrard and Damiani will also be participating.
The showcase this year will be even more extravagant, with distinguished pieces that will be flown to Malaysia specifically for A Journey Through Time VIII. Maurice Lacroix will be featuring the Masterpiece Gravity, one of the first timepieces to feature an all-silicon assortment as well as the three watches from the FC Barcelona collection. Maîtres du Temps will be unveiling the new Chapter One Round Guilloche Translucent as well as selected pieces from the Chapter Two collection. Hermès will be displaying their line of exquisite watches including the Arceau Lift, Arceau Full Paved and Arceau Le Temps Suspendu.
Damiani will be showcasing several pieces of jewellery that have won the Diamonds International Award and the Vulcania Masterpiece in White Gold. Carrera y Carrera will be featuring their Seda Imperial Collection while Gubelin will be highlighting their exquisite range of red gemstone pieces.
Special talks and symposiums will also be organised for visitors to gain a deeper knowledge of timepieces and precious stones, including talks by esteemed horologer Eric Ong, who founded Bonfield Fine Jewellers, on the appraisal and authentication of timepieces (22 November 2014 at 11.00am-12.00pm and 23 November at 2.00pm-3.00pm). There will also be talks on pearls by Edward Kong, a prominent South Sea pearl farmer based in Sabah, Malaysia (24 November 2014 at 11.00am-12.00pm and 25 November 2014 at 2.00pm-3.00pm) and Rio Yamase of Lilla Rio (22 November 2014 at 2.00pm-3.00pm). Additionally, Gubelin will be organising an intensive seminar on red gemstones, led by a qualified academician on 22 November 2014 from 4.00pm-5.00pm. Visitors may also look forward to chic fashion parades, delectable cuisine as well as performances by international artistes at the nightly gala dinners. Laura Wright, an artist who performs classical and operatic music and Carly Paoli, a classically trained singer, are just two of the celebrities scheduled to make an appearance during A Journey Through Time VIII.

Keeping to tradition, the most impressive pieces on display during A Journey Through Time VIII will be recognised and awarded at a grand gala dinner held as a fitting finale to this eight-day event. The award winners will be selected by an international panel of five qualified judges including the well-known Dr. Bernard Cheong, who remains the only Asian who has presided over both the Grand Prix d'Horlogerie and the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie.
Adding to the festivities this year, A Journey Through Time VIII will also host the Twisted Malaysian Fair which will feature gastronomical delights prepared by Chef Matthew Ona, the Executive Chef at Shook!, Kuala Lumpur.
