Run For Your Lives Malaysia 2016

On New Year's Eve, I participated in Run For Your Lives Malaysia 2016 held at Taman Botani Negara, Shah Alam. I reached the venue around 7.30pm and saw a big crowd lining up to collect their t-shirts and tags. For those who have not heard about this event, Run For Your Lives is the world’s premier Zombie-infested obstacle course.

Participants assume the role of either a Survivor or a Zombie in this one-of-a-kind event filled with thrilling chases, rocking music and a kick-ass dance party finale. Part obstacle course, part music festival, and a full on encounter with "the running dead", Run For Your Lives promises a fun day (and night) with friends, colleagues and evil ex-bosses alike. For survivor, they are given three flags that indicates three lives to be placed around their waist. If all three flags are taken by the zombie, the survivor will then turn into infected.

Participants who entered the run as zombie has arrived the venue as early as 4pm for the zombie make-ups and ripping/tearing off their clothing by the crews.

The 'zombies' who's already done with the make-ups and clothes will prepare for the first wave at 6.30pm. There will be one wave for every half an hour until the last wave which is wave 9 at 10.30pm.

There's items for sale at the event such as t-shirts, cap, bags and beverages as well.

There's also some activities prepared for the participants while waiting for their wave.

One of the main highlight of the event was the live performance by our renowned DJ Nikki and dance crew, Soul Vixenz!

There were plenty of food trucks available to fill up our hungry stomach and to quench our thirst.

I have not tried the Nathan's Famous hot dog sausage before and I was interested to try it that night but unfortunately they were all sold out.

Instead, I settled for the cheesy fries instead and it was a let down. The fries were too soggy and the cheese sauce was not good. I think there's too much flour and too little cheese in it. Hopefully next time I will get to sample their hot dog...(ops!) sausage.

After almost 2 hours of going through the zombies' clutches, obstacles and story mode houses, I have finally reached the finishing line. Since I still able to secure two flags left around my waist, I get to collect the survivor medal. The race was quite unique and surprisingly fun to me. The matter of fact that the park was quite dark and lack of lighting which turns out to be quite spooky but also dangerous at the same time where participants had accidentally crashed into each other.

Thanks to Fariz and Desmond for joining me at the run. They are my friends whom I have known for more than 15 years!

Other than the run itself, there's also the best zombie apocalypse costume contest.

One male and one female were chosen as the winners for the contest. The male one was really good, he was really into his character when he got up the stage.

The night was fill with nicely chosen electronic dance music by DJ Nikki towards the new year's countdown.

As the clock strikes 12am, confetti were released onto the crowd.
It was a different and unique new year's eve experience for me as I have never participated in any run on a new year's eve and it turned out to be quite a memorable one. Although there's some delay on the wave and I understood that it's their first time doing it at night, there's always room for improvement. Hopefully the organiser will organise it again this year.
