Common Ground Partners with Child Enrichment Centre Curious Child

Have you heard of Common Ground? It is a co-working space rental company started by Erman Akinci and Juhn Teo. They have recently announced its partnership with child enrichment centre Curious Child as it opened its fifth Klang Valley venue. Curious Child is founded by none other than beauty queen and working mother Carey Ng, Curious Child is attached to Common Ground’s latest 21,000 square feet coworking venue in popular neighbourhood shopping centre Citta Mall in Ara Damansara.

Common Ground is Malaysia’s leading and largest coworking space that prides itself on not just being a communal workspace but building a sustainable and integrated coworking community. Co-founded by Erman Akinci and Juhn Teo, the duo is on a mission to provide the ideal work environment; a place where people can go and work from an ergonomic and visually-appealing space and be surrounded by other like-minded entrepreneurs, digital nomads, developers, designers, working mothers and everything in between.

Erman Akinci, co-founder of Common Ground said, “It's been an interesting journey filled with strategic planning and careful execution of this specific venue to get to where we are today. In line with the new government’s recent statement on addressing women empowerment and child welfare, our aim through this partnership with Curious Child is to provide services that meets the needs of working mothers and encourage them to join our growing community to utilise and enjoy one of our many offerings, all whilst they build their careers.”

At present, there are not many office spaces that provide childcare facilities or services which causes women to give up one’s career in order to care for one’s children. Seizing this opportunity, Common Ground’s latest partnership with Curious Child is aimed at providing the support needed by working mothers who struggle to manage the demands of both one’s professional career and domestic responsibilities.

“With the rampant rise of coworking spaces in the region, we always have our ear on the ground for potential opportunities and disruptions in the industry and closely monitor potential acquisition targets that align with our brand. It’s crucial for us to identify the needs of the working generation of today and fulfil those in order to continuously be on top of our game. We will continue to explore similar partnerships of these sorts as we continue to grow our business and expand into the Southeast Asian region,” said Juhn Teo, co-founder of Common Ground.

Since giving birth in September last year, Carey experienced first-hand the difficulty of balancing one’s professional life while physically, emotionally and mentally tending to a newborn. Identifying the opportunity to create a facility to support working mothers whilst promoting early learning in children, Curious Child was founded. The child enrichment centre offers a multitude of services including infant care, enrichment programs, prep school programs and the “drop and work” program.

“We all know that having a baby brings about a massive shift in one’s life – especially for working mothers. I’m a strong advocator of women being able to balance one’s personal and professional life. When I came up with the idea of Curious Child, I visualised it to be more than just a daycare center - it’s a learning ground, complete with child-minding assistance and play-based learning activities – so while you build your career, your little ones can build their minds. It’s an honour to be partnering with Common Ground, Malaysia’s coworking space industry leader, whose values align with mine as they provide the support needed for working mothers to find their balance. I look forward to what this partnership has to offer as we pave the way forward in enabling the new working generation of today,” said Carey Ng.

Common Ground Ara Damansara houses an in-house cafĂ©, event space, board rooms, several smaller meeting rooms, quiet lounges, and three formats of workspace — hot desking, fixed desking and private offices for two or more people.
