Jamaica Blue Malaysia at Mid Valley Megamall (Food Review)

Recently, I was invited to review Jamaica Blue's new menu with some of their signature dishes and also to taste their award-winning coffee – Jamaica Blue Signature Blend, as well as one of the world's best coffee – Jamaica Blue Mountain.

The outlet that I visited is located on the first floor of Mid Valley Megamall, near Metrojaya department store.

The setup of this outlet is quite simple with a couple of tables and seats behind it. It opens from 10am until 10pm on weekdays and 9.30am until 10pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Jamaica Blue serves two types of coffee bean, Jamaica Blue Signature Blend and Jamaica Blue Mountain. The Jamaica Blue Signature Blend is made from 100% Arabica beans sourced from South America, India, Pacific Rim, Africa, Central America and Jamaica. The Jamaica Blue Mountain is a single origin coffee from the Blue Mountain of Jamaica. I was told that it is one of the world's superior coffee-growing regions. So now lets take a look at some of the food and drinks offered in Jamaica Blue.

The first one is the Avocado Smash with Maple Glazed Turkey Slice (RM22.50). Sourdough toast topped with smash avocado, feta cheese, seeds, glazed maple turkey, poached eggs and herb garnish.

Just take a look at the yolk oozing out from the poached egg. I personally enjoy this dish a lot and it's definitely a great healthy choice for breakfast. The generous amount of smash avocado and all the other ingredients that go very well on top of the toast.

Next, it's one their handcrafted recipes and also pretty healthy – Warm Forest Mushroom, Feta and Spinach Bowl (RM18.80). This bowl consist of quinoa and almond porridge, chickpeas, poached egg, herbs with dukkah and squeeze of lemon. I would say that this dish was pretty unique and yummy at the same time.

Other than that, there's the Classic Steak Sandwich (RM26.90). It has grilled scotch fillet and beef strips, sliced tomato, rocket vege, caramelized onion, aioli and gherkins on a ciabatta. The portion of this dish is quite huge for its price and the taste of the scotch fillet and beef strips were quite tasty. Having said that, if you prefer meat that is more of the soft side, this may not be the right choice for you.

If you feel like having pasta instead, you can try the Pasta Boscaiola (RM22.50).
This pasta dish is cooked with turkey slice and shallots in a garlic cream sauce. The taste of this dish is not too strong and the cream sauce is not too creamy just the way I like it.

As for desserts, I had the Homemade Lemon Curd Slice (RM5.60). It's best to eat with the cream on the side and to go with their coffee as well.

I also tasted their Jamaica Blue Mountain Special Cake that uses their signature blend coffee. The coffee taste in this cake is not too overpowering and I also like the rich taste of the chocolate as well.

As for the drinks, I've managed to taste the Cappucino with Jamaica Blue Signature Blend (RM11.00), Pomegranate Botanica Sodas (RM13.30), Blue Mountain Long Black (RM19.20) and Jamaica Blue Chilled Mocha (RM13.60).

To be frank, I am not so knowledgeable about coffee but I am slowly taking up coffee workshops from time to time which include coffee tasting and coffee appreciation. I enjoyed their Cappucino with Jamaica Blue Signature Blend as it has a very well balanced taste and I must say that their barista did a very good job preparing it. As for the Blue Mountain Long Black, it's mainly for coffee drinkers that prefer milder taste than those coffee with darker or stronger flavor. I also like the Jamaica Blue Chilled Mocha and Pomegranate Botanica Sodas, something that I will order on a hot day.

My conclusion: Jamaica Blue offers decent food at a competitive price. Their coffee is simply one of the best especially their signature blend coffee and the price point is definitely cheaper than those mainstream brand like 'S' and 'TCB'. Other than Mid Valley, they have four more branches in Klang Valley, one in Seremban, one in Johor Bahru and one in Kuching, Sarawak.

  6. Don't forget to experiment with nutmeg when it comes to lamb and veal, even sausages, as well. The next time you're creating a cheese sauce for something, add a dash of nutmeg. nutmeg nuts
