Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (Movie Review)

Last night, I was at GSC Mid Valley Megamall to catch the premiere screening on Hobbs & Shaw. I am a fan of the Fast & Furious movie franchise but knowing that the action sequence in the movie will somehow be physics defying, I still enjoy watching them.

Hobbs & Shaw is a spin-off of The Fast and the Furious franchise centered around the titular Luke Hobbs and Deckard Shaw, characters introduced in the main series. Starring Dwayne Johnson as Hobbs and Jason Statham as Shaw. Idris Elba, Vanessa Kirby, and Helen Mirren also star.

Synopsis: Two years after the events of "Fast and Furious 8", Diplomatic Security Service agent Luke Hobbs and former SAS operative turned mercenary Deckard Shaw find themselves forced to work together despite their intense dislike of each other. They must team up to take down a cyber-genetically enhanced anarchist, Brixton, who has gained control of a deadly virus that could alter the future of humanity.

If you have been living in a cave all this while and have not watched a single movie from the Fast & Furious, it's not going to be a problem at all. The main characters are somewhat nicely developed at the beginning although I'm not sure why there's a short clip of Hobbs and Shaw character introduction in WWE style. I was watching in GSC Onyx Cinema LED Screen which I think is pretty awesome although the screen is a little small but the seats were quite comfy. There are new characters that might or might not need some development such as the surprise appearance of Ryan Reynolds (not a cameo) and also Kevin Hart as a sky marshal. Both of them were quite funny and I think they did a great job in it. The argument between Hobbs & Shaw revolve around the size of their manhood and it became kinda repetitive at some point. There's also a couple of scene where they referred to some other unrelated films which they have acted in. Just like the Fast & Furious movie franchise, there were plenty of physics defying action scenes especially the last part where the helicopter being dragged by four hot rods. Also, why does the bad guys took so long for them to arrive in Samoa? The good guys had so much time to prepare for the fight. Shaw's sister, Hattie Shaw look like she's high on drugs or something and decided to expose herself to Brixton for an easy capture. I guess the director probably want to cut it short for the helicopter chase scene.

My thoughts: Overall, it's an enjoyable movie for me. Lots of actions and humour. I didn't notice any cut scene but mute censorship for profanity.

My ratings: 4 out of 5 stars (It's a must watch at the cinema!)
