Samsung GALAXY S III Launch in Malaysia!

The Samsung GALAXY S III has finally arrived in Malaysia and from my very first impression when it was introduced at the launch in London earlier this month, it must be a smart phone that Apple iPhone 4S can't compete with despite the tagline being trolled in Facebook & 9gag,"Designed for Human".

Anyway, many laughed at the tagline especially those Apple fanboy including myself (though I'm still using my iPhone 2G and worship the Macbook Pro). I wanted to see for myself, why is it being claimed as "Designed for Human". So on the 24th of May 2012, I was invited to the media launch of the Samsung GALAXY S III at the One World Hotel in Bandar Utama.
The crowd at the registration counter before the media launch.
Some of the bloggers whom I met attended the launch as well.
There was this super cool wide screen they had for the presentation, pretty similar to the one they used for the Samsung GALAXY S III launch in London.
Wan Zaleha, one of our local celebrity as the emcee that evening.
First of all, I was totally amazed by the presentation by the guys from Samsung Mobile and after the presentation, it opened my eyes to understand the terms "Designed for Human" which is being emphasized in the phone. Basically the smart phone is inspired by nature, the Samsung GALAXY S III reveals a new concept of smartphone that is effortlessly smart and intuitively simple, one word - PERFECT!

Speaking on the introduction of the new device, Mr. Kwon Jae Hoon, Managing Director, Samsung Malaysia Electronics Sdn. Bhd. said, “Designed to be both effortlessly smart and intuitively simple, the Samsung GALAXY S III has been created with our human needs and capabilities in mind. What makes me most proud is that it enables one of the most seamless, natural and human-centric mobile experiences, opening up a new horizon that allows you to live a life extraordinary.”

“With the introduction of the Samsung GALAXY S III, we are confident that Samsung will surpass the success of the GALAXY S II which sold 20 million units globally since its launch last year,” he added.

Thank God for the press release or else I would have a hard time to catch Mr. Kwon Jae Hoon's speech that has a Korean accent in it.

After the introduction by Mr. Kwon Jae Hoon, the features of the new smart phone was presented by a team from Samsung Malaysia Electronic Sdn Bhd, Mr. Luke Au and Mr. Benn Lee Go, the Product Marketing Managers.

This is one of the latest features which I found out to be quite convenient for those who use smart phone device to stream Youtube or watch movie frequently. They can make the video smaller and multitask at the same time. It's called the Pop Up Play - lets you do two things at once. For example, if you received a Whatsapp message and wanted to view it, simply touch on the video and drag it away to make it smaller and go to the message to read or reply. You won't miss any of the scene on the video while replying the message at the very same moment. Cool huh!

An 8MP camera and a 1.9MP front camera are also included in the device, giving users a variety of intelligent camera features and face recognition related options that ensure all moments are captured easily and instantly. With the ‘Burst shot’ function that instantly captures twenty continuous shots, and the ‘Best photo’ feature that selects the best of eight photographs for you, the Samsung GALAXY S III ensures users a more enhanced and memorable camera experience.

Sharing is now easy and instant with the new ‘S Beam’ which allows any large files including movie files to be transferred by simply touching another Samsung GALAXY S III phone, even without a Wi-Fi or cellular signal. With ‘AllShare Play’, users can be also used to instantly share any forms of files between Samsung GALAXY S III and your tablet, PCs, cameras and televisions regardless of the distance between the devices.

Check out the photo above, I was quite stunned when I saw the see-through screen where they placed a unit of the Samsung Galaxy S III behind it.

Smart enough to detect your face, voice and motions, the Samsung GALAXY S III adapts to the individual user to provide a more convenient and natural experience. With the innovative ‘Smart stay’ feature, the Samsung GALAXY S III recognizes how you are using your phone – reading an e-book or browsing the web for instance – by having the front camera identify your eyes; the phone maintains a bright display for continued viewing pleasure.

Some accessories for the new smart phone. The most right is the Desktop Dock, something like the one we get from iPhone.
The lady was explaining some of the features to the bloggers.
Equipped with ‘S Voice,’ the advanced natural language understanding, the Samsung GALAXY S III listens and responds to your words as well as your motions to offer maximized usability. If you are messaging someone but decide to call them instead, simply lift your phone to your ear and ‘Direct call’ will dial their number. With ‘Smart alert,’ the Samsung GALAXY S III will also save you from trouble by catching any missed messages or calls; your phone will vibrate to notify missed statuses when picked up after being idle.

Weighing at only 133 grams and measuring at only 8.55mm thick, the Samsung GALAXY S III is the first device featuring quad core application processor. This provides users with enhanced performance, faster web browsing, seamless multi-tasking, supreme graphics quality, and an instantly responsive user interface on a larger screen. As a leader in display technology, Samsung’s state-of-the-art innovation is further reflected in the device’s heritage  that has been enhanced to include HD wider viewing angles on a 4.8 inch display.

The Samsung GALAXY S III is powered by Android™ 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich and a 2,100 mAh battery which is the longest lasting smart phone in its range. Apart from that, the Super AMOLED display really makes the screen really stand out and has great contrast even at a bright outdoor. They had something called Galaxy features, similar to Siri in those iPhone 4s. I personally like the 4.8 inch display which is not too big unlike the Samsung GALAXY Note and my hand are able to have a firm grip on the smart phone. That's all from my short observation on the Samsung GALAXY S III, hopefully I will get a chance to play with it even longer or even to own one in future.

This smart phone will be available for purchasing with data plan from Celcom, Digi and Maxis.
Pre-order them now and be the very first one to own the Samsung GALAXY S III in Malaysia.
