Real Steel (2011) Movie Review

Do you want to see some Robots boxing in action? Then this is one movie that you must not miss! Real Steel is a 2011 American science fiction action film starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Shawn Levy. The film is based on the 1956 short story "Steel" by Richard Matheson, though Levy placed the film in U.S. state fairs and other "old-fashioned" Americana settings. Real Steel was in development for several years before production began in June 11th of 2010. Filming took place primarily in the U.S. state of Michigan. Animatronic robots were built for the film, and motion capture technology was used to depict the brawling of computer-generated robots and animatronics.

So thanks to Nuffnang and Churp Churp that I have the great opportunity to watch this movie before its official release date, not once but twice! :D

The story:

This movie is set in the near future, around 2016 where robot boxing is a top sport, a struggling promoter feels he's found a champion in a discarded robot. During his hopeful rise to the top, he discovers he has an 11-year-old son who wants to know his father.

Director: Shawn Levy

Writers: John Gatins (screenplay), Dan Gilroy (story)

Stars: Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly and Dakota Goyo

My verdict:

I really like the idea that human boxing has been replaced with robots in the near future. The action was  incredibly good when it comes to bashing the steel and metal body of the robots. Just that it's a bit weird that the robot that they use for the final match 'Atom' can actually last all five rounds in the WRB compared to the 'Noisy Boy' who can't even last a round in an underground match. The young actor, Dakota Goyo who played as Max Kenton, the son of Charles Kenton was a good match in this movie. He's funny and tricky at the same time makes him a very good match to Hugh Jackman who acted as Wolverine before in the X-Men movies. I'm still puzzled on how that kid can actually carry out a thousand pounds weight of a robot all by himself. Also, when did he learnt all the computer stuff about robots modification and how to even repair a robot in just a few days. It doesn't make sense at all...

My rating:

4 out of 5 - Very much recommended if you are a big fan of robots movie like Gundam and Transformers. Watch this in the cinema that offers THX surround sound system, it's good!

.: Peace Out :.
