The Conjuring (Movie Review)

A few days back, girlfriend and I went to Cathay Cineplex to watch The Conjuring. We didn't get movie screening passes for this movie but we heard that it's worth paying to watch it in the cinema. The Conjuring is about two paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren work to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in their farmhouse.

Director: James Wan
Writers: Chad Hayes, Carey Hayes
Stars: Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Lili Taylor

Synopsis:
In 1971, Carolyn and Roger Parren move their family into a dilapidated Rhode Island farm house and soon strange things start happening around it with escalating nightmarish terror. In desperation, Carolyn contacts the noted paranormal investigators, Ed and Lorraine Warren, to examine the house. What the Warrens discover is a whole area steeped in a satanic haunting that is now targeting the Parren family wherever they go. To stop this evil, the Warrens will have to call upon all their skills and spiritual strength to defeat this spectral menace at its source that threatens to destroy everyone involved.

Take a look at The Conjuring trailer below, it's a little scary although it's just a trailer.

Conclusion: By far it's one of the scariest horror film in 2013, it's way better than Mama which was released earlier this year (a movie where people said it's scary, wait until they watch this). This movie reminds me of Insidious that was released in 2011, a movie that Patrick Wilson was also in it and a mixture of The Exorcist. I like how Ed and Lorraine Warren actually give logical explanation tothe victims and using tools to capture the movement and voices of the evil spirits. There was a scene in the beginning that was quite predictable to happen towards the end. Anyway, this is the kind of film that will pacify those who say “I wish Hollywood would make the films they used to make.”  I highly recommend that you watch this.

Cut scene: Unnoticeable.

After credits scene: Nil

Rating: 3.5 / 5

Release date in Malaysia: 1st August 2013

By the way, The Conjuring is based on a true story but of course the director had to add in scarier elements into the movie. Watch the video of the real Lorraine Warren below.

.: Peace Out :.
