Not long ago, I've attended the 2nd MIHTE 2013 Press Conference at Sunway Resorts Hotel & Spa (blog link here). On the 20-22 Oct 2013, the 2nd MIHTE 2013 was held at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre and officially launched by our Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin Haji Mohd Yassin.
MIHTE Conference has once again provide participants with the opportunity to network and learn from the leading lights in the medical tourism and healthcare industry. I was very fortunate to witness the opening ceremony and listened to some of the topics related to the medical tourism and healthcare industry by speakers from all around the world.
After the arrival of the ministers, the were to remain standing for the national anthem - Negaraku.

Dato' Sri Abdul Wahid Omar (Minister in the Prime Minister's Department), YAB Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin Haji Mohd Yassin (Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia), Hon. Dato' Seri Dr Hilmi Haji Yahya (Deputy Minister of Health Malaysia) and YBrs Dr Mary Wong Wai Lin (Chief Executive Officer, MHTC).
Speech by Hon. Sen. Dato' Sri Abdul Wahid Omar (Minister in the Prime Minister's Department).
Speech by Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia and in his speech, he mentioned,"With the on-going promotional activities and organising international events such as this (2nd MIHTE 2013), I an proud that Malaysia is now recognized as one of the top 10 preferred healthcare travel destinations in the world".
YAB Tan Sri Dato' Haji Muhyiddin Haji Mohd Yassin, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia has officially launched the event by twisting the huge Rubik's cube. Being an industry that has many possibilities for partnership and collaboration, medical tourism can be likened to the popular 3D puzzle, Rubik's cube. Twist the cube one way and you have a range of collaborators - a team - who can work together towards the greater good. Twist it again and you have another set of partnerships. It always produces colorful results but is basically all part and parcel of the same cube or industry. The configurations are many. This multifacetedness also highlights the many specialties within the industry.
For the first time, the MIHTE Conference will have multiple sessions in English, Arabic, Indonesian, Japanese and Mandarin to support and cater to the language needs of the different countries. These language-based breakout sessions will address topics of interest of respective target markets within the medical tourism industry.

Earlier on before the arrival of the ministers, I get to listen to some of the informative topics regarding the medical tourism and healthcare industry in our local scene as well as international scene.
First they had Peter Greenberg, a Travel Editor at CBS News on stage. His key note address is about Healthcare Travel: State of the Industry where healthcare cost is very high and in order to lower down the cost, bundling up the cost for particular procedure will be a good way to somehow lower down the patient's burden.
Next up, Dr Lim Teck Onn (Senior Partner of Yun Consulting, Stats & ClinData Consult, Malaysia) gave a speech on the Performance Driven Healthcare Travel.
Datuk Dr Jeyaindran Tan Sri Sinnadurai (Deputy Director General of Health, Ministry of Health, Malaysia) also gave speech on the topic Cross-Border Quality and Safety: Performance Measures to Establish 'the Best'.
As with the diversity of exhibitors in the main hall, the seminars presented a wide range of information; something for everyone really, and it made for an extremely informative experience. I did manage to snap a few pictures at the exhibition hall before the place filled with the crowd.
The 2nd MIHTE 2013 is a very important international event to mark the rapidly emerging and highly lucrative global healthcare travel industry. An opportunity to find out what Malaysia has to offer to the world.
