Ev Ting Defeats Eric Kelly in ONE Championship: Clash of Heroes

On the 29th of January, I went to Stadium Negara, Kuala Lumpur for the ONE Championship: Clash of Heroes. It wasn't my first time attending ONE Championship mixed martial art fight event but it's definitely the first time where a Malaysian is fighting in the Warrior bout main event.

Despite the traffic congestion in KL on a Friday evening, I managed to reach Stadium Negara at 6.30pm. I was quite lucky to win a pair of bronze passes from Metros.Events contest. Just in case you guys didn't know what Metros.Events is about, is a portal which focuses on all events and happenings in and around your area. They were also the organiser for ONE Championship: Clash of Heroes.

After collecting my passes from Metros.Events, I headed into the stadium. At the entrance, there was a security check and our belongings were scanned. This was the first time that my belongings were scanned after attending previous fights. The security is pretty tight this round.

After the the security check, I went into the stadium and the ONE Championship title belt was displayed in the middle of the walk way. It looks pretty good and I am sure every mma fighter would really want this.

While waiting for the fight to start, DJ Nikki was on the deck to entertain the audience with some EDM beats. There's three preliminary fights and Agilan Thani, our Malaysian fighter is part of it.

The first match started at about 7 plus and featuring the female catchweight bout (49kg). Jenny Huang defeats Amira Badr by Submission (Triangle Choke) at 3:09 minutes of round 2. Jenny is a great female fighter with good knowledge of technicality. This is her third official mma record win.

The next one is the Lightweight bout where Saygid Guseyn Arslanaliev defeats Mishal Alfad by TKO (Strikes) at 0:32 minutes of round 1,

The third match is between our home fighter, Agilan Thani against James Kouame in the middleweight bout. Agilan defeats James by Submission (Rear Naked Choke) at 1:12 minutes of round 2.

After all the preliminary fights has ended, all the fighters for the Malaysia Warrior bout came out to greet the audience. The fights that I was looking forward to is of course the main event between Ev Ting and Eric Kelly. Other than that, I am also anticipating on the match between Keanu Subba and Rayner Kinsiong.

Keanu Subba (right) facing Rayner Kinsiong
Keanu won the lightweight bout against Rayner Kinsiong but unfortunately Rayner is also a fellow Malaysian and he's from Sabah just like me! I really wish next time ONE Championship will not arrange a fight between two Malaysians.

Keanu, similar to his brother Gianni is famous for knocking out their opponent in first round and this time he did manage to defeat Rayner in the first round with a TKO (strikes).

After a few matches, finally it's time for the main event. The Malaysia Warrior bout (lightweight) between Ev Ting 'E.T.' and Eric 'The Natural' Kelly. Ev Ting has won four out of five ONE Championship fights and he managed to defeat Eric's brother, Edward Kelly.

Eric Kelly who has the advantage as an experienced fighter, won seven out of eight ONE Championship fights before facing Ev Ting. He has also represented Malaysia in one of the previous ONE Championship fight event. The fight lasted three rounds and the superiority of Ev Ting's submission technique has made him the champion.

Ev Ting
Overall, I am satisfied with ONE Championship: Clash of Heroes. There will be another ONE Championship MMA fight event in September. I am definitely looking forward to be attending that.
