Sapporo is the largest city on the Northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, also the gateway to the neighbouring Niseko region that is about 100 kilometres or two and a half hours’ drive away. Set against the backdrop of Mt. Yotei, an active volcano similar to Mt. Fuji, Niseko is famous for its breath-taking natural landscape and world renowned resorts.

In summer, the pleasant weather that is less humid than the rest of Japan at Niseko attracts a large number of local tourists from the mainland Japan as well as international tourist from abroad. With three National Parks in and around the area, there is more than enough to satisfy even the long- term visitor.

Visitors can lace up their hiking shoes and trek through unspoiled countryside in search for some of Hokkaido’s famed inhabitants such as the elusive ‘momonga’ (flying squirrel), look for some of the island’s unique plant life, rent a mountain bike, spend a day fishing, tour the summer backcountry or explore the region’s rivers by canoe or even rapid water rafting!
