The Leverage Business Hotel @ Skudai Johor (Grand Opening & Hotel Review)

Earlier this month, I was invited to do a hotel review at The Leverage Business Hotel in Skudai, Johor. The hotel started operating merely two weeks and it's rather new. It was launched by Chin Hin Hotel Sdn. Bhd. as one of their newest location in its business and leisure boutique hotel chain. This is the fourth addition to the Company’s range of business traveller focused hotels which are located two in Alor Setar and one in Rawang. 

The Leverage Business Hotel has a dark black and brown profile on its building giving it a very sophisticated look and at the same time making the hotel brand strikes.

The hotel is along Jalan Skudai highway which is 15 minutes to North-South Highway, 15 minutes to Johor Bahru City Centre and CIQ, 25 minutes to Second-Link Highway and 25 minutes to Senai International Airport. I came from LEGOLAND Malaysia and it only took me about 10 minutes to reach the hotel. It is strategically located within close proximity to educational institutions, shopping malls (Sutera Mall), eateries and other tourist attractions for the convenience of its guests.

At the hotel lobby, guest gets to sit down on the chair while waiting for their room to be checked in. Next to it is the internet corner.

The 6-storey business hotel is equipped with hotel security and video surveillance to ensure the safety of its guests, complimentary parking, Wi-Fi connectivity, prayer rooms and an internet corner for easy on-line accessibility. The Coffee Lab cafe which is next to the lobby is still in progress and will be opening by next month.

Other in-house facilities include function rooms with half day or full day seminar packages for seminar and conference meetings that accommodate up to 80 people, as well as a convenient in-house café, which provides guests a space to spend some quality downtime and possibly network with other guests. The function rooms were not ready during my stay so I did not take any picture of it.

By using a contemporary and modern design concept, the 92-room business hotel is designed for comfort, and features eight types of rooms including 5 customised luxurious Executive Suite and suites that are furnished with workstations with Executive working tables and whiteboards for a comfortable working environment as well as a wide angled rain-shower for a relaxing wind-down experience from a long business trip.

Standard single room. Look at that clear glass panel bathroom and toilet!

The other room types include 24 Double Queen rooms, 4 Executive King rooms, 23 Superior King rooms, 4 Standard King rooms, 16 Standard Queen rooms, and 16 Standard Single rooms with in-room facilities such as a 40” LED TV, a featured bathroom with rain shower, complimentary coffee and tea making facilities and Wi-Fi connectivity, just to name a few. In celebration of the grand opening of The Leverage Skudai, all rooms within the standard price range of RM98-RM258 per night are now offered at a promotional rate of RM98 per night, which begins today and continues for a period of three months. That's really cheap! Promotion is until end of June only. Don't forget!

Standard queen room. All the standard single and queen rooms are windowless.

Double queen. Suitable for family with kids.

The sink, bathroom and toilet layout for the double queen room. There's panel on the side where the guest can close it for privacy purposes but it's not lockable. Good for parents with kids but not good for friends / colleagues.

Superior king room

I find that the concept of separating the sink, bathroom and toilet to be quite convenient and interesting but it seems quite troublesome and pointless for a single guest.

The air-conditioner in every room is inverter air-conditioning which provide quieter and faster cooling system for the room. During my stay, I have to adjust the temperature to 27 degree and it's comfortable enough for me. Anything lower than that is freezing to me. That's how cold the air-conditioner can get. Other than that, there's also iron, ironing board, mini bar and a safe deposit box provided in the room. Having said that, the standard single and standard queen do not equip with such amenities.

The suite is probably my favorite room of all!

The bed looks super comfy right? I can sleep on this bed all day and night long.... :D

There are some differences between the executive suite with the normal suite. One of the most significant is the bigger room space, large wardrobe and a big rainfall shower head at the bath area. Right until this point of my write-up, I am pretty sure a lot of you will be wondering how can a guest uses the toilet or bathroom if the other guest who is not his/her partner? One of them might need to wait outside, or at the lobby, or just go walk around the shop-lot area. It seems to be quite troublesome with the clear glass for the bath and toilet area. Some of the comments I received from my Facebook friends, they are more concern about privacy when using the bathroom and toilet.

Both suite and executive suit comes with a discussion area providing a table and two chairs.

The bed at the executive suite is also more comfortable than the rest of the rooms thanks to the extra layer of mattress that will guarantee a comfortable sleep at night.

Conclusion: If you are going to Johor for business meeting or to visit LEGOLAND or Sanrio Hello Kitty Town and looking for a place to stay, The Leverage Business Hotel is probably the best choice right now with their current RM98 promotion for any room. The hotel does not provide breakfast and do not have a lounge, gym, spa and swimming pool facility since its main target are those business guests. My only concern is the clear glass panel for some of the bathrooms and toilets. Overall, the room is comfortable, clean and plenty of eateries around the hotel. I am quite pleased with my stay.
