My Travel Destination Highlights with AirAsia

Over the years, I have traveled to many countries. I learnt a lot of different cultures, religions and languages from the countries which I have traveled. I was bitten by the travel bug after my trip to Chiang Mai, Thailand for the Songkran festival (Thai New Year's festival). Ever since that day, I have plan to visit every country in South East Asia as a start.

Before this, I have only traveled to two other countries. The first country was Brunei when I was little with my dad who was working there. The second country was Singapore and it's mostly for work purposes. Those are the only 2 places out of Malaysia that I have been to other than the local destinations. Back then, airplane tickets were really expensive. Thanks to the existence of budget airlines, flying out of Malaysia has become more and more affordable for everyone.

With cheap flight tickets, I have managed to fly to countries such as Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. During the Songkran festival in Chiang Mai, I had the best time of my life getting drenched with water and shooting water gun to complete strangers in the water fights. Well of course that wasn't the purpose of Songkran. Traditional parades were held and "Miss Songkran" where contestants are clothed in traditional Thai dress is crowned on that day.

If you have seen the TVB series "Dead Wrong", you will noticed that there's a lot of scenes were taken in Vietnam specifically in Ho Chi Minh City and the Notre Dame Cathedral was one of their filming location. The architectural of the building is quite outstanding and it's located strategically beside the Saigon Central Post Office.

During my visit in Ho Chi Minh City, I have also visited the The Independence Palace which is one of the main landmark in the city. It was the site of the end of the Vietnam War during the Fall of Saigon, when a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed through its gates. Hence there's a few wars tanks to be seen at the front of the building entrance.

From Ho Chi Minh City, I travelled to Phnom Penh in Cambodia. Phnom Penh is the capital city of Cambodia and it was a hub for both the Khmer Empire and French colonialists. I greatly recommend you to visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the killing fields at Choeung Ek to learn about the history of the Khmer Rouge regime and their tyranny. It might be quite disturbing and shocking to some but for me, I learnt that humankind can be so evil to their own people which took place than 40 years ago.

The main highlight for my Cambodia trip was to visit Angkor Wat in Siem Reap. Angkor Wat is a temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world. I am delighted to be able to witness the amazing sunrise view in Angkor Wat without any rain and cloudy sky.

I like to travel locally too especially to East Malaysia. Back in 2013, I climbed Mount Kinabalu with a group of Sabahan friends and it was one of my best experience in Sabah. After the Sabah's strongest earthquake in 2015, the locals have managed to rebuild the Laban Rata rest house and made the trail safer. I hope that I will be able to climb again in the near future.

One must not miss the awesome local food in Sabah. My favorite is Sang Nyuk Mien, Ngiu Chap, Tuaran Mee, UFO tarts, pan fried dumplings, teh madras and many more! I think I must have gained 2kg from the food that I had. It's just too good to resist! They do have some of it in KL but it's not as nice as the ones I had in Sabah.

I usually prepare my travel plan around half a year to a year and do Air Asia airline booking for the places that I wish to travel to. If I am going to take an early morning flight, I will pre-book an inflight meal.

My 'must order' in flight meal is the delicious Pak Nasser's Nasi Lemak and paired with a cup of T&Co hot coffee.

Drinking a cup of hot coffee in the airplane at 36,000 feet is an enjoyable experience to me. Haha...

So those are some of the places which I have visited so far. There's definitely a lot more places that I wished to travel to those exotic places such as the Egyptian Pyramids of Giza, the Amazon jungle in Ecuador, Mount Agung in Bali and many more! So what's your travel bucket list destinations? Do share your thoughts in the comment section down below.

Till then, have a great week and stay safe!
