Rockaway Grill + Bar at Changkat, Bukit Bintang (Food Review)

Changkat in Bukit Bintang is well-regarded as one of the most popular drinking and party location for the locals as well as the foreigners. If you are looking for a place to fill up your stomach before heading to the bars or clubs, you can check out Rockaway Grill + Bar. I was invited to sample the Bloggers Night Menu which featured 18 different dishes and also to view some of the cocktails offered there.

As an all American Wild West inspired grill and bar, Rockaway Grill + Bar promotes dishes that are mainly consisting of meat such as ribs and steaks. Even their burgers have huge patty size that will definitely satisfy the hungry customers. Having said that, let's first take a look at their burgers.

For burger lovers out there, you will easily fell in love with the Lincoln Burger (RM68) that comes with 100% premium meat, white sesame buns, fresh toppings and with a side of fries. There are five choices of 100% premium meat to choose from which is the Wilkes Barre Beef, Scronton Pork, Easton Chicken, Princeton Lamb and Cortland Wild Hogs. My personal favourite would be the Wilkes Barre Beef.

If you love a plenty of cheese, you can also opt for the Washington Burger (RM68) and comes with the items mentioned above. There are quite a large selection of sauces that you can choose from such as hellfire chef, honey mustard, basil pesto, horseradish, mayonnaise, ketchup, American mustard, BBQ pepper sauce, garlic mayonnaise, chipotle ranch and thousand island sauce.

Next up, it's the Traditional Fish and Chips (RM42) that comes with french fries, coleslaw and mushy peas. It wouldn't be a classic or traditional fish and chips without the mushy peas and I must say that it is quite enjoyable eating it together especially with the crispiness of the fish.

Buffalo Honey Wings (RM42), succulent chicken wings with honey ranch dressing, celery and carrot stick.

For sharing, I recommend the Daddy's Breakfast Pizza and Texas Pizza where the ingredients and the crust were done perfectly together.

If you feel like having something light, you can try have the Pork Sausage Rolls (RM30), To me, it brings back some of my childhood memories.

Otherwise you can try the Brisket Cobb Salad (RM32) that has grilled brisket, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, chives and roquefort cheese. The usage of roquefort cheese on the salad bowl in Malaysia is quite uncommon as restaurants tend to use cheddar or parmesan cheese but it goes really well with the fresh salad and grilled brisket.

Then, we also had the Panko Crusted Cod Fish (RM54) that comes with grilled asparagus at the bottom, sauteed button mushrooms, chat potatoes and caper butter sauce. The cod fish was nicely cooked and the skin was crispy but I personally feel that the portion was too small for my consumption.

Time for some pasta, we had the Tiger Prawn and Minced Crab Pasta (RM36) and I was quite impressed with the size of the tiger prawn here. It's cooked with chilli flakes, garlic and white wine but the overall taste was superb and I can taste a kick of spiciness at the end of each bite.

The next pasta dish is the Spicy Clam Leek Pasta and Poached Eggs (RM33). Clams, leek, tomatoes, anchovies, chilies, streaky bacon and poached egg were added into the pasta.

The Philly Steak and Cheese (RM30) with roast beef, sauteed mushrooms, caramel mushrooms and with a side of fries.

I personally like my steak medium but for some really good quality cut, they deserved to be cooked in medium rare. For the Petite Fillet Mignon (RM67), the meat was pretty doesn't feel too raw or too dry for a thick cut of steak.

The Wichita Lamb Steak (RM82) is plated on the hot sizzling stone grill where the sauce will be poured onto the lamb steak. I rarely had lamb steak and this has a unique taste that I have never tasted before elsewhere.

Moving on, we had couple of dishes from the Cowboy Ribs and Grill. First, we had the Greybull Smoked Spare Ribs (RM95) and I must say that the spare ribs were quite flavourful and easily fall of the bones.

From what I heard, the chef mentioned that Rockaway Grill + Bar is one of the place that has the license to serve wild hog or wild boar. The huge portion of this Scottbluff Smoked Veal Wild Hogs cost only RM85. Some might not like it due to the noticeable and substantial gamy taste of the wild hog but I've eaten enough wild boar in Sabah to enjoy this.

Another huge grill dish, it's the Laramie Whole Slab Pork Ribs (RM90) that I personally enjoyed that night. Usually I will only take a few bites of the ribs due to the 'jelakness' of it but the sweet and savoury of this dish was quite well balanced.

The winner of the night probably goes to this Rockaway Special Tapas Platters as it cleared out very, very, very quick. All the items on this were really good and definitely best to go with a cold glass of beer.

Here are some of the recommended cocktail that are being offered in Rockaway Grill + Bar. You can check out more cocktail images on my Facebook page here.

If you are an avid happy hour hunter, you can check out their rates above. It's quite affordable for a place located within the golden triangle in KL.

An interesting corner with a classic bike as one of the interior decoration. Overall, I am satisfied with the quality and portion of the food in Rockaway Grill + Bar. If you are planning to check out this place, it's best to take a grab or walk over from the nearest MRT station unless you don't mind paying the RM20 parking fee per entry right opposite of this place.
