Chinese New Year Feast with Fresh Halal Ingredients at Golden Valley KL (Food Review)

To be frank, I am not a fan of Chinese cuisine that doesn’t serve pork at all but if I would to choose, I’ll pick Golden Valley in Melawati Mall. They serve authentic Chinese cuisine with fresh quality Halal ingredients.

Snow Pear, Jelly Fish & Salmon Yee Sang

 

Long story short, I had their FORTUNE 富贵宴 CNY Menu 2023 set that came with 9 dishes including Yee Sang and desserts. Following the Chinese Malaysian culture, we will start with yee sang tossing and their Snow Pear, Jelly Fish & Salmon Yee Sang did not disappoint me. The ingredients were fresh and easy to eat without the feeling of being jelak.

Fish Maw & Assorted Seafood Broth

For soup, we had the Fish Maw & Assorted Seafood Broth. I can’t remember when was the last time I had fish maw soup since the pandemic hit the world. It tasted oceany and hearty at the same time. Definitely a great started before entering into the realm of heavy dishes. 

Crispy Roast Duck Hong Kong Style

Next we had the Crispy Roast Duck Hong Kong Style. Okay, I’m not gonna lie here, this could easily be one of the top 5 best roast duck I ever had. The skin is crispy and the meat was so tender! I kept eating and eating non stop. 

Still craving for this succulent roasted duck!

Steamed Sabah Grouper with Twin Mushrooms & Black Fungus

Followed by Steamed Sabah Grouper with Twin Mushrooms & Black Fungus. Fish meat had a good mouth feel and paired well with the earth taste of the mushrooms. The sauce has a good balance of savoury with sweetness as well.

Fresh Water Prawns with Chef's Special Sauce

Chinese Cabbage with Fatt Choy & Mushroom

Then we had the Fresh Water Prawns with Chef's Special Sauce which I think it will be popular among the kids. We also had the Chinese Cabbage with Fatt Choy & Mushroom so that we don’t feel too guilty not eating any vege. Haha! By the way, fatt choy means becoming rich or making lots of money in chinese terms.

Claypot Chicken Rice with Mushroom & Black Fungus

My stomach was already almost at its maximum capacity but I had to chow down the final main dish which is the Claypot Chicken Rice with Mushroom & Black Fungus. Savoury with slight bitterness from some of the burnt rice. Yum!

Lotus Seed & Red Bean Paste Pancake

Double Boiled Lotus Seed, Red Dates, Dried Snow Pear & White Fungus Soup

For a sweet ending, we had the Lotus Seed & Red Bean Paste Pancake which I really enjoy especially the red bean ones and also a few bowls of Double Boiled Lotus Seed, Red Dates, Dried Snow Pear & White Fungus Soup. Well, most of us have different stomach for desserts. Am I right? Haha…
