HONOR Magic5 Series is Launched in Malaysia from RM3,499

HONOR Malaysia has announced the Malaysia launch of their highly anticipated dual flagship smartphones, the HONOR Magic5 Series and HONOR Magic Vs on the 6th of April. As the new generation all-rounder flagship smartphones launched by HONOR, that will set to impress. Malaysians are surely proud to be the first country to launch both the HONOR Magic Series since its abroad reveal, setting the stage for incredible debut.

At the launch event in JW Marriott Hotel Kuala Lumpur, I get to check out all three new devices and they also announced the retail prices along with the promotion for those who pre-ordered it. Let's take a look at the HONOR Magic5 and HONOR Magic5 Pro.

The pro version has a remarkeable DXOMARK score at 152 which made them currently at the top featuring the Falcon Triple Main Camera – which boasts a 50MP Wide Camera that features OIS, EIS, and a customized 1/1.12 inch large sensor to capture more light and delivering users brighter, clearer, and more vivid images with lifelike colors and details.

Compared to its predecessor, HONOR Magic5 Pro had drastically improve on the imaging speed, with a startup speed increase of 102%, a focus speed increase of 245%, a shutter reaction increase of 147%, and an imaging speed increase of 118%, the HONOR Magic5 Pro is the perfect smartphone for capturing live performances and sporting events. In contrast, on its camera superiority, the AI Motion Sensing Capture feature enables the camera to recognize varied scenarios precisely and intelligently identify the highlight point in each scenario to help users automatically capture the best moment.

Its main camera is a 50 MP, f/1.6, 23mm (wide), 1/1.12" 1.4µm, multi-directional PDAF, Laser AF, OIS, followed by 50 MP, f/3.0, 90mm (periscope telephoto), PDAF, OIS, 3.5x optical zoom and the third lens is the 50 MP, f/2.0, 13mm, 122˚ (ultrawide), 1/2.5" with AF.

The camera set is different than the non pro version which has the 54 MP, f/1.9, (wide), 1/1.49", PDAF, followed by 32 MP, f/2.4, (telephoto), PDAF, OIS, 2.5x optical zoom but similar 50 MP, f/2.0, 13mm, 122˚ (ultrawide), 1/2.5" with AF.

To keep the lights on, both phones have a large Li-Po 5100 mAh battery, 66W wired HONOR SuperCharge and 5W reverse wired. Meanwhile, only the pro version has wireless charging feature at 50W. They claimed that the HONOR Magic5 Pro can supports up to 17.06 hours of online YouTube video playback on a single charge. If only I have a unit to test it out. Haha!

Further eye care features include an industry-first 2160Hz PWM Dimming on LTPO display, Circadian Night Display, and Dynamic Dimming. The HONOR Magic5 Pro is also certified with the signature TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light Certification, ensuring that users can enjoy their device without experiencing eyestrain or fatigue.

HONOR Magic5 Pro will come in two colour options, Meadow Green and Black and Magic5 Pro will be in Glacier Blue or Black. I personally prefer the Meadow Green.

Both phones are powered by Snapdragon® 8 Gen 2 Chipset which is used by most of the flagship phones these days. In addition, the HONOR Magic5 Series features a self-developed standalone antenna architecture that enhances connectivity and wireless transmission for users. With separate antennas for both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the innovative design prevents interference between the two wireless networks, allowing data to be transferred concurrently. This means that users can stay connected and enjoy fast, reliable performance no matter where they go.

HONOR promises 5 years of security updates and 3 major system updates. In my opinion, that's good and that should be an official ruling for every new phone release. Currently I am using a phone which was released on June 2019 and it only managed 2 years of security update. That's sad!
