A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to Dorsett Hartamas in KL to sample its Chinese New Year menu. It’s the very first time that Dorsett Hartamas has put up a feast for this Lunar Year Of The Wood Dragon since they opened their doors in 2018. At Table Talk, four unique set menus have been created by Chef Lai Chan Meng or better known as Chef Meng with a gourmet flair.
Toss of Prosperity and Longevity - Prosperity Salmon Yee Sang
Of course, the classic Yee Sang prosperity dish is a must-have, and there are many of variations available. There’s Salmon, Jellyfish and Smoked Duck Breast Yee Sang priced at RM98 nett for half portion and RM178 nett for a full portion. Choose the Mixed Fruits Yee Sang for a tasty and refreshing treat. A half portion costs RM78 nett, while a full piece costs RM108 nett. The strawberry and blackcurrant speciality sauce that Chef Meng makes for every Yee Sang takes the dish to a whole new level, available for takeout and dining in till 24th of February 24, 2024.
The Prosperous Beginning set meal is priced at RM388 nett each set. The eight-course meal, which includes the Dish of Prosperity, is perfect for two to three pax. There's also the other three set meal which catered for more diners which you can look at the menu list below.
I had the opportunity to taste the 10-course Golden Blossom set meal. This meal, which costs RM1188 nett per set for six to eight pax, has every item that is associated with good fortune throughout the Lunar New Year. We started off with the Prosperity Salmon Yee Sang and I like the crispy green and red bits, pomelo, the finely shredded vege but I'm not a big fan the coriander. It's still a great appetizer I must say.
Eight Treasure Seafood Soup
The Kung Pao Beef with Cashew Nuts was nicely cooked, tender and flavourful while the Eight Treasure Seafood Soup was thick, rich in both flavours and ingredients.
Butter Prawns
Char Siu Chicken with Special Sauce
My favourite dishes are the Butter Prawns and Char Siu Chicken with Special Sauce. Prawns are definitely fresh and has a good mouth feel to it while the sauce in the char siu chicken is sweet, smoky and really resembles the non-halal version which I like.
Deep Fried Barramundi (Siakap) with Sweet and Sour Sauce
Stir Fried Broccoli with Mushroom and Bean Puff
Yong Chow Fried Rice with Brined Fish
Deep Fried Barramundi (Siakap) with Sweet and Sour Sauce, Stir Fried Broccoli with Mushroom and Bean Puff and Yong Chow Fried Rice with Brined Fish were decent too but nothing to shout about here. We ended the meal with two desserts, Sea Coconut with Dry Longan and Snow Fungus and Steamed Nian Gao with Fresh Grated Coconut. The steamed nian gao was excellent. Visually pleasing and nian gao has the right softness to it complemented with grated coconut flakes.

All in all, it was a good dining experience for me even though it was their first time. You can check out Dorsett Hartamas for an incredible gastronomic experience that will leave you and your loved ones speechless as we welcome in the Year of the Wood Dragon with prosperity and pleasure.
Table Talk will continue to serve the Dish of Prosperity and Lunar New Year set meals through 24th of February 24, 2024. Every day at noon, the restaurant closes at 6PM. Their culinary crew would be pleased to accommodate your needs if you reserve three tables or more for supper.
