Nikuno Yoishi, which is famous for its Japanese yakiniku from Nagoya, Japan has finally opened its second outlet in Malaysia. Penang being the first outlet, it's definitely a good thing for those in the Klang Valley area.
Located at Uptown Damansara, Petaling Jaya and they're now having a special offer for the A5 Wagyu Standard Kalbi at a 50% discount on the 5th of May (grand opening day). Instead of paying RM35++, you only need to pay RM18++.
The server was helpful and knowledgeable to explain the menu dishes to us. In total, the place has 11 tables and is suitable for medium-sized groups. Parking can be a little difficult to find, but they're working on getting the parking lots in front of the shop, or alternatively, you can park inside Starling Mall with a fee of RM1 for the first 2 hours. It can be a little warm inside the restaurant when most of the tables are grilling, so do wear light clothing.
All their wagyu beef is halal export certified from Japan, but the restaurant itself is non-halal since they serve alcohol.
We had the Gokujyo Platter, which is RM225++ for 2 pax with 480g of meat weight in total. I got to try the Special Yoichi Kalbi and Loin, Yoichi Thick Cut Tongue, Beef Intestine, Premium Steak Cut, Standard Lean Cut, Pot Marinated Kalbi, Curtain Loin and assorted vegetables as well.
For drinks, we had the Fresh Fruit Soda of Lemon flavour and Mango flavour (RM14++ each). It's cold and refreshing, but I do wish that they include a stirrer as the sweetness are mostly at the bottom of the glass.
My favourites are the Special Yoichi Kalbi, Yoichi Thick Cut Tongue and Curtain Loin. The beef cuts are very nicely seasoned and marinated, while the thick-cut tongue had a very rich beef flavour, tender and gave a pleasant chewing experience. As for the beef intestine, it needs to be cooked properly so that it's crispy on the outside, gelatinous texture on the inside and not too chewy.

Have you tried beef tongue before? |

The Curtain Loin on the grill. It's thinly sliced so a few seconds of grilling were sufficient, |
My other half enjoyed the grilled assorted vegetables, especially the corn as it's sweet, and the grilling gave it a bit of a charred flavour. The servers were actively removing the empty plates and replaced the burnt grill twice. For the yakiniku experience, I'll give this set a 9 out of 10.
For 2 persons dining together, you must order the medium portion of Traditional Iron Pot Rice (RM11++), steamed Japanese rice cooked in the iron pot for 20 minutes.
The taste of the rice is fragrant and a little sweet, and the iron pot gave it a slight crispiness on some parts but not to the extent that it was burnt like our usual claypot chicken rice.
Aside from that, I've also tasted the Wagyu Ribloin Aburi Sushi (RM52++). The wagyu was flambe for a few seconds, incredibly butter, rich in flavour but the wasabi and rice balanced the taste out very well.
Overall, I had a good time dining at Nikuno Yoishi, and I look forward to giving it a visit soon!
