The Butcher’s Table Celebrates the Launch of its Fifth Outlet in Taman Desa

It took a while for me to write this post about what I've experienced, or should I say indulged in, a very sinful yet high-quality porkilicious course of dishes. I've known The Butcher's Table which located in SS2 Petaling Jaya for many years, but when I got an invitation to the official launch of their fifth outlet in Taman Desa, I knew that I had to go.

The Butcher's Table is founded in 2017 and today, it is one of Malaysia’s leading names in quality cured meats and artisanal sausages. Mr. Ho Kim Loon, runs The Butcher Table alongside with his children, Kent and Tiffany who have been expanding their dad's legacy with the opening of this fifth outlet in Faber Towers, Taman Desa. Mr. Ho who was present at the launch shared with us that he has spent more than 30 years learning and mastering the art of butchery and charcuterie skills from a Swiss chef.

Smoked Pork Knuckle with Sauerkraut

For those who have been living around Bangsar in the late 90's, you might have heard or been to Mr Ho’s Fine Foods at BSC which served his own range of meats and sausages. Eventually, he closed his businesses in KL and ventured into East Malaysia for a couple of years before returning back again to Klang Valley to open the existing The Butcher's Table in SS2.

We started off with a House Salad with a combination of Frisée lettuce, cherry tomato with grated parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar. Crispy, fresh and a good appetizer to prepare us for meat dishes.

Next, it's the German Potato Salad with bacon bits, gherkins and apple. I quite enjoyed this one with a light savoury taste together with the creamy potato salad and crispy textures altogether.

This is the Crispy Roast Pork with Pickled Vege. Crispy Siew Yok with its crackling skin and melt-in-your-mouth pork belly. True to their description, the skins did crackle, and yes, it did melt in my mouth too. The pickle vege cut out some of the greasiness from the roast pork and the chilli dipping did taste like those from chicken rice shops but in a good way, not too spicy nor too diluted.

Their Grilled Pancetta packed with good amount of flavour with hints of smokiness aftertaste. It's like a thicker piece of  bacon but not as dry and it has a good mouthfeel to it. The only thing I add to this is probably a side of mashed potatoes or having it together with the German Potato Salad could be a nice combination too.

This is one of their popular items, their Housemade Sausages - Cheese, Iberico and Farmer's Bratwurst. The pork taste is very apparent especially the Iberico sausage. It's delicious, firm but bouncy and not overly salted. My personal favorite is the one with Cheese!

Another main highlight was their Smoked Pork Knuckle with Sauerkraut. If you're a fan of German pork knuckle, then this is a must-order. Pork knuckle can be eaten on its own or dipped with the brown sauce for extra flavour. Although it is a little chewy on the skin part but I did enjoy the smoky flavour on this pork knuckle.

Their Tomapork cut consists of rib, loin and belly cut, grilled to juicy perfection. It is served with coleslaw and fries on the side. This Tomapork is tender, not dry at all, cooked just right and quite flavourful with little effort for me to bite. The coleslaw was nicely done too. Definitely one of my top favourite at The Butcher's Table.

I absolutely in love with this last dish. It's the Truffle Mac and Cheese with Mushroom, Guanciale, Bacon Bits and Pork Lard. The truffle mac and cheese flavour went so well together with all the ingredients especially the pork lard. It gives it a whole new dimension of texture and flavour, I topped up a few rounds even though I was already quite full. More mac and cheese with extra pork lard please!

To end the meal, we had a dessert which is not on the menu, specially curated just for the launch. It's Truffle Cheesecake topped with thinly sliced cured pork and grated cheese. It was my first time eating cheesecake with truffle and pork. It's quite a unique experience and the cheesecake itself was nice but since I was already full, I desire a more lighter and refreshing. Well, that's just me.

Pricing-wise, I am unable to reveal how much each dish costs accurately for the reason that most of the dishes were prepared to be shared by 4 persons, so it's best that you find out the pricing yourself from their menu here. I would say the dishes are on the upper mid-priced side, so it's a place where you need to splurge a bit for some good quality meat.

By the way, their Flat White (RM11) was surprisingly good too since I didn't expect their coffee to be on par with the popular cafes out there

Overall, I enjoyed dining at The Butcher’s Table in Taman Desa, good food, friendly service and it's definitely worth another visit soon. Perhaps I'll do a proper food review without the presence of the owner himself. Haha...

The Taman Desa outlet offers a fresh take with its glasshouse-inspired design, lush greenery, and modern, airy setting, creating a warm yet contemporary space that sets it apart from the other locations.

To celebrate the opening, diners can enjoy a complimentary Pancetta with their meal—available for a limited time only. I am very not sure if this offer is still valid as of the date of this post but it's always good to check with them by calling or DM them on social media @thebutcherstable.
