Last week, I was at Amway Malaysia HQ in Petaling Jaya for the media briefing by Amway Malaysia for the topic of Cellular Health & Healthy Aging in Malaysia's Aging Society. This year as Amway celebrates their 50th anniversary, they continue to advance on their journey as a Health and Wellbeing company, with a strategic progression driven by the urgent need to address Malaysia's rapidly ageing population and the growing public anxiety surrounding age-related health decline.

"Throughout the past 50 years, Amway Malaysia has been dedicated to helping people live better lives. We want to continue on this journey by further advancing our products and services, committed to support the government’s health agenda and empowering Malaysians to take charge of their wellbeing as we tackle the pressing health issues facing the nation,” explained Mike Duong, Managing Director for Amway Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia & the Philippines. "Our journey is one guided by science, nature and innovation. From phytonutrients to gut health, and now cellular health, each step builds on the last, reflecting our holistic approach to wellbeing.”
Tackling Malaysia's Ageing Crisis with Science and Innovation
Malaysia is on the cusp of a significant demographic shift, with over 15% of the population expected to be aged 65 and above by 2030, officially becoming a "senior nation". The huge demographic shift - known as the Silver Tsunami - has led to a significant increase in the population of older adults. As more people grow older, they also become more anxious about what that means for their body and their overall health.
Amway is dedicated to shaping holistic well-being throughout every stage of life, from focusing on phytonutrients and the gut microbiome to supporting cellular health.
A Global Advisor survey revealed that over 60% of Malaysians are anxious about growing old, with nearly half feeling pessimistic about the future. Studies show many Malaysians face health challenges in their later years, underscoring the need to focus on extending healthspan, not just lifespan.

In an effort to combat this and in support of the government's efforts, Amway aims to drive awareness and educate fellow Malaysians through their ageing journey about the core issue affecting healthy ageing - cellular ageing that starts from deep within the cells.
Cellular Health as the Next Frontier in Healthy Ageing
Healthy cells are the foundation of a healthy body, as they efficiently repair themselves, remove waste, and produce energy, which in turn supports a strong immune system and better brain function while supporting overall health and wellbeing. Conversely, declining cellular health due to age can lead to lower energy levels, slower recovery from illness or injury, and an increased risk of chronic diseases.
The three panelists, Michael Duong, Managing Director, Amway Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia & the Philippines; Jason Leng, General Manager, Amway Malaysia & Brunei; and Dr Shyam Ramakrishnan, Director of Research and Development, Amway SEA/India and Taiwan, sharing their knowledge about the vital role of cellular health in healthy ageing, during the Amway Media Briefing.
To address this, Amway is broadening the focus from a long lifespan to an extended healthspan - the period of life spent in good health. By combining science-backed solutions like plant-based nutrition and microbiome support with new cellular-level protection, Amway is providing the tools people need to stay active, vibrant, and resilient throughout their lives. This comprehensive, science-backed, nature-inspired approach empowers individuals to live better and enjoy their healthier years.
The Ideal Trifecta
Amway’s commitment began with understanding the power of plants. Through the Nutrilite Health Institute, the team spearheaded research highlighting a global shortfall in fruit and vegetable intake where 3 of 4 adults worldwide do not meet the World Health Organisation’s recommended five servings of fruits and vegetables a day. To deliver the foundational nutrition that adults need, Nutrilite scientists use the latest methods and technology to extract highly purified vitamins and minerals, and organic plant concentrates from specific plants for optimal health and wellbeing.
Recognising the gut as the "second brain," Amway then expanded its focus to gut health. This pillar is crucial for influencing immunity, digestion, and mood. A key collaboration with Monash University aims to develop solutions tailored to the Malaysian population's unique gut microbiome and health profile. Amway’s GUTPROtein Foundational Health solutions of protein, prebiotics and probiotics is designed to replenish and nourish beneficial gut bacteria, supporting overall wellness and cellular repair.
The latest and most crucial step in this evolution is addressing cellular health, a culmination of six years of extensive research, screening over 600 plants and 50,000 plant ingredients to identify key phytonutrients that support cellular regeneration. This research led to the discovery of The Golden Regeneration Combination, a five-phytonutrient complex (bATmm-5™) sourced from plants like the Dendrobium Orchid, Pagoda Tree Flower, Chokeberry, Gooseberry, and Pomegranate.
This breakthrough is made possible by the Nutrilite Intelligent Botanical System - Amway’s proprietary Smart Herb System that matches phytonutrients to specific plants. Amway’s latest innovation in cellular health, supports the body’s cells against stress and helps maintain vitality. Part of the final piece in Amway’s broader ecosystem of health solutions, it ensures the body functions optimally from the inside out. AmCELLTM is Amway’s first supplement designed to address all 12 hallmarks of ageing.
From humble beginnings in 1976 to today's cutting-edge cellular health solutions, the company continues to evolve with science and innovation, with its success also being attributed to impressive research collaborations with world-class institutions including Monash University Malaysia (microbiome and disease prevention), Stanford University (lifestyle and wellbeing) and the National University of Singapore (cellular ageing research).
Dr Shyam Ramakrishnan, Director of Research and Development, Amway SEA/India and Taiwan discusses the science behind Amway’s new cellular health solution—an advanced formula developed through extensive research to identify key phytonutrients that support cellular regeneration.
Michael Duong, Managing Director, Amway Malaysia, Singapore, Brunei, Indonesia & the Philippines at the Amway Media Briefing, sharing about the importance of adapting a holistic approach to health in order to increase one’s healthspan, enabling them to live not only a long but also meaningful life.
“Through plant-based nutrition, GUTPROtein, and now AmCELLTM, Amway continues to deliver holistic solutions that help Malaysians bridge the gap between lifespan and healthspan. Increases in people’s life expectancy also focuses our priority in ensuring that they enjoy their healthier years too — by addressing urgent health concerns such as non-communicable diseases and facing the challenges of ageing with strength, vitality, and resilience. As we mark 50 years in Malaysia, our mission remains the same: to empower Malaysians to live better, healthier, and more fulfilling lives,” concludes Jason Leng, General Manager of Amway Malaysia & Brunei.
