Back in May this year, I had to run some errands at Lalaport and suddenly I have an urge to try out Hock Kee Kopitiam which is located in TUAH 1895, just a few minutes walk outside of the mall. I heard a lot of hype of the place back then where it's always full during peak hours and sometimes there will be a queue.
Long story short, I decided to have my lunch there and it was almost the end of lunch peak hours when I arrived. I briefly went through their menu and of course I need to try their Nasi Lemak. What is a visit to a eatery that similar to Oriental Kopi without ordering it. Prices starting from RM9.90 to RM26.90... the most expensive one caught my eye which is the Nasi Lemak Banjir but I wasn't interested to spend that amount to try something new that day.

I went for the basic... Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken Meat (RM14.90) and a glass of iced Kopi (RM5.50). The servers came right away when I wanted to order and the food didn't take long to be served on my table although the place was still a little busy.

The refillable sambal
The chicken was flavourful but kinda dry, perhaps over-fried. The sambal given by default is too little but it's refillable for free when I asked for it. The sambal was more on the sweeter side, not too spicy for me. I would prefer if it has more kick to it. Unfortunately, the coconut milk rice was not fragrant enough and the texture is a bit too soft. I like the acar (pickled vege) cause it's nice. It's sweet, sour and crunchy.

As for the iced Kopi, it's decent. Doesn't taste burn and there's less sugar option. Well, you don't need that as it won't potong kaki (not overly sweet).

You can buy their own branded Bird Nest, Coffee, Tea and Instant Noodles at their outlet
I was done in less than half an hour and there were more empty tables by the time I paid and made my way out. Overall, Hock Kee Kopitiam is just alright. The Nasi Lemak didn't impress me and I will still prefer the one in Oriental Kopi as a comparison lah. Of course there are better Nasi Lemak places out there but for similar concept, the latter is definitely better. Total paid: RM22.45 after 10% service charge.
Will I go back again? Maybe, only if I am with family or friends and I'll order other dishes instead of the Nasi Lemak.
Opening hours: Mon-Thurs 9am-10pm | Fri-Sun 8am-10pm
.: Peace Out :.
