SUPER GT 2012 Round 3 Malaysia

From the 9th until 10th of June 2012 there will be the Biggest Motorsport Event in Malaysia: SUPER GT 2012 Round 3 Malaysia, the FASTEST Grand Touring Race in the world, and the ONLY SUPER GT race outside of Japan. To the casual fans, this event is so much more than JUST motorsport. It integrates all forms of FUN into ONE event. So for those super car lovers! You must not miss this big event which only happened once a year!

The SUPER GT 2012 Round 3 Malaysia, one of the most popular and greatest motorsport events was officially launched today by JPM Motorsport at the Bangsar Village 2. SUPER GT is a world class Grand Touring Race Series where it is hugely popular and reputable in its country of origin – Japan. SUPER GT 2012 Round 3 Malaysia is the one and only round out of the eight round of the SUPER GT in Japan. This year SUPER GT Trophy was unveiled by Mr JP Chin, founder of JPM Motorsport, Mr TJ Chin, Managing Director of JPM Motorsport; Mr Yochiro Ueno, MD & CEO of Honda Malaysia and Mr David Tan, Managing Director of Tumasek Pewter. Hundred members from several car clubs were also present to witness the momentous event.

Our Prime Minister, Dato' Sri Mohd Najib was seen attending the official launch at Bangsar Village 2.

During the SUPER GT day itself, there will be an exhibition of some of the Finest and Rarest Automotive Collection, an Akihabara Town with authentic Japanese ‘look and feel’ filled with gadgets and will also feature the finals of the Playstation Gran Turismo 5 SUPER GT Cup Tournament. Not only that, there will be a Non-Stop Carnival with Musical Performances On and Off Stage, interviews with the Handsome and Talented Drivers who are accompanied by their Beautiful Race Queens. This event is meant for all walks of life, and there is something for everyone!

But, more on that later. SUPER GT was born in 1993 – it was called the Japan Touring Car Championship then, and was renamed Japan GT shortly after. When Japan GT started expanding to foreign lands, it was renamed again to SUPER GT to reflect its international ambitions. This race is utterly unique because it has two racing classes: GT500 and GT300. The GT500 is raced by leading Japanese automobile manufacturers such as Honda, Nissan and Lexus, while the GT300 is raced by leading aftermarket auto-accessories makers, who used machines like the Ferrari 458, Lamborghini LP570, Aston Martin V12 Vantage, Audi R8 GT3, Chevrolet Corvette, and even mean green machines like the Toyota Prius and Honda CRZ, making it the most diverse race!

Honda CRZ (hybrid) is currently one of my favorite sporty look car in my list.

If you’re wondering why 500 and 300, it is because when the race first started, 500 and 300 is the maximum brake horsepower (BHP) of the machines in their respective classes. Impressive, right? Well, over the years, this output has increased significantly and the machines today are unrated as of yet, although the naming remains the same. The machines are a masterpiece in technical engineering, and the GT500 is the fastest Grand Touring Race in the world, surpassing the even the FIA GT1 and DTM races. Not only that, one would be hard-pressed to find a more Colouful race anywhere in the world! All the race cars from both categories are fitted with low-cutting splitters and humongous GT wings, and then given a bright coat of colours from orange to crimson red to Japanese white, and some cars are even anime-themed, all to ensure that the fans are entertained with a visual feast!

This matte black Lamborgini totally took a lot of the public attention on that day including myself!

Aside from the exciting races, SUPER GT 2012 Round 3 Malaysia will also feature the amazing machines on track in their road-legal cousins in the AFFIN Bank Motorshow. The Motorshow will be participated by leading conglomerates like SIME DARBY MOTOR, NAZA World and other major Japanese and Korean manufacturers like Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, Subaru and Hyundai, as well aftermarket accessory makers like MOTUL and DENSO. Thus, expect the finest collection from exotic makers such as Ferrari, Maserati, and Porsche, to performance automakers such as Alfa Romeo, BMW, Ford and even Land Rover, who provide alternatives for 4x4 lovers. Not only that, private owners will be bringing some of the rarest cars as well, like the Lamborghini Murcielago LP670-4, Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, Morgan Aero Super Sport, Ford GT40 replica and many more! Even some of the SUPER GT Race Cars will be on display, making it truly a Heaven for all Automotive Lovers! To top it off, Ducati and Harley Davidson will be bringing their best motorbikes to the show. The AFFIN Bank Motorshow is definitely the place to scratch your speed itch.

Two adorable SUPER GT beauty queens on the official launch that day.
