Sennheiser Momentum 5 Wireless Headphones (Review)

I've received the Sennheiser Momentum 5 wireless headphones for review purposes and I am writing this review based on my personal experience as a casual user and not an audiophile.

Before I start, here are some of the key features of the Momentum 5.

Design
Personally, I like the design but mostly for this denim colour with the jeans-like texture at the top. Black and white are common colours and this one is something unique when spotted in public. The material on the body and ear cups are matte polycarbonate, feels quite solid.

I like the big L & R letter on the inner side of the ear cups to distinguish the sides easily.

Inside the box, it came with a case, the cables are also placed inside and it's decent but the zipper isn't that smooth whenever I tried to zip it close. Also, I prefer if the headphone can be folded to a smaller form factor.

Comfort
The Momentum 5 is an over the ear headphone and the earpads cushioning are soft and good. The fitting is adequately tight even when I’m running on treadmill. The touch sensors on the right side takes getting used to and is a little too sensitive especially the volume.

Only the right cup does all the actions such as ANC, transparency mode, play, pause, swipe left right for track navigation, volume up down and pinch to adjust transparency level.

Anyway, I can’t use it for long hours as it weights 290g probably due to the huge battery but it is fine as I can take a few minutes break from using it. The music will auto pause whenever I take it off and auto play when I wear it back. Not a new feature but it's always good to have.

Battery Life
This is the main highlight of this Momentum 5 and I dare say that it has one of the longest battery life that I have ever used. On paper, it mentioned that the battery life is 57 hours with ANC on and I can attest that it may be true.

When I was using the headphone with ANC on for an hour or so in 3 days, the battery barely drops 10%. Also, the battery can be replaced where the previous model can’t so it’s good for product longevity. Other brands should take note on this. Haha...

Sound Quality
As I said earlier, I am not an audiophile but I do own multiple earbuds and headphones, so this is entirely my personal preference. The Momentum 5 sounds good straight out of the box without middling with the app. Better than what I've expected. It has good bass, not the very deep kind but just the right amount and decent mid as well. Treble needs some improvement and personally I prefer the sound to be louder at higher volume.

At high volume, I didn't notice much of the distortion and the ANC mode is very good in filtering indoor and outdoor noises and I like that I can adjust the level of transparency mode. The Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity is also quite strong as far in comparison to my other earphones that lose connection easily whenever I leave my phone in my bedroom to enter the living room.

Sennheiser's Smart Control Plus app


Smart Control Plus app is easy to use, quick to connect (like really fast on my Samsung phone) and no bugs whatsoever. I get to personalize my own sound or choose the preset ones such as Rock, Pop, and so on.

Price & Availability
The retail price for this Sennheiser Momentum 5 is RM1,999.00. The price is actually pretty close to its competitor in the market but you can purchase it at a lower price with voucher from Sennheiser Consumer Audio Shopee store.
